Carl W. Scott, Sr.

Branch Manager | Registered Principal
Texas

Carl W. Scott, Sr., a Branch Manager in Houston, TX, has been at RJ more than 22 years, which likely makes him the longest continually tenured African American Financial Advisor at Raymond James. He joined Raymond James as a one-man office in 1997 and later merged offices with another small branch manager at RJFS.

Carl attended Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University) in Alabama and after moving to Chicago, Illinois attended Roosevelt University, graduating with a B.S. degree in Business Administration. He began a career in financial management positions in accounting and corporate planning and analysis with General Electric Company and Allied Van Lines, Inc. He later joined Highland Community Bank as Comptroller and was also responsible for managing investment of the bank’s short and long-term cash positions. In 1980 He returned to Houston and joined Gulf Coast Cable Television and Warner/Amex Cable as Controller and chief Budgeting and Analysis Officer.

In 1986 Carl got his start working in the financial services industry with Dean Witter Reynolds (later acquired by Morgan Stanley). After a few years in the business I found that presenting professional financial and retirement plans was the best way to solicit and retain clients. Raymond James recruiting ads at that time were soliciting brokers interested in a financial planning-based business. They (RJ) boasted superior equity investment research and performance as well. Since then, Raymond James has continued to increase and expand its services supporting the investment and retirement planning disciplines Carl specializes in. In keeping pace with the broadening and ageing of today’s client demographics he practices a more Holistic wealth management service model. His planning process places a premium on focusing on wealth planning to traditional retirement years and for the now extended period thereafter.

As one of BFAN’s founding members, Carl says he is encouraged by increases in the number of African - American advisors at Raymond James, and growth of Black Financial Advisors Network. He sees several strategic advantages and opportunities for both BFAN members and for Raymond James through its Inclusion Networks.
